The Serrano Indians (they call themselves Maarrenga'yam) lived in Southern California before the Spanish missionaries arrived. Their territory was, roughly, the San Bernardino Mountains and the Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Bernardino basins.

The current reservations for the Serrano are the Morongo Reservation, in Banning, California and the San Manuel Reservation, in Highland, California.

There are three fluent speakers of the Serrano language left. They are working on reviving their language.

I am learning to speak the Serrano language, but at least one of my regular visitors has a far superior command of the language. He can identify himself in a comment if he wishes.
